Abstract

Recent interdisciplinary studies by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) have resulted in substantial progress in understanding the processes that control * the release of metals and acidic waters from inactive mines and mineralized areas, * the transport of metals and acidic waters to streams, and * the fate and effect of metals and acidity on downstream ecosystems.

Global Fiducials Library

Introduction The Earth changes continuously in response to natural processes and human activity. The collection and interpretation of time-series imagery enhances our ability to observe and monitor Earth’s dynamic processes as well as study and understand the rapidly changing surface of our planet. The Global Fiducials Library (GFL) provides repeated satellite imagery of selected locations around the world to help scientists observe, document, and better understand those changes over time.
