Abstract

Materials extracted from the Earth are necessary to produce our most fundamental needs – food, clothing, and shelter. Materials are needed to maintain and improve our standard of living. Understanding the whole system of materials flow, from source to ultimate disposition, can help us better manage the use of natural resources and protect the environment.

Global Fiducials Library

Introduction The Earth changes continuously in response to natural processes and human activity. The collection and interpretation of time-series imagery enhances our ability to observe and monitor Earth’s dynamic processes as well as study and understand the rapidly changing surface of our planet. The Global Fiducials Library (GFL) provides repeated satellite imagery of selected locations around the world to help scientists observe, document, and better understand those changes over time.
