Adsorption of SO 2 on bituminous coal char and activated carbon fiber prepared from phenol formaldehyde
Abstract
Carbon-based materials are used commercially to remove SO 2 from coal combustion flue gases. Historically, these materials have consisted of granular activated carbons prepared from lignite or bituminous coal. Recent studies have reported that activated carbon fibers (ACFs) may have potential in this application due to their relatively high SO 2 adsorption capacity. In this paper, a comparison of SO 2 adsorption for both coal-based carbons and ACFs is presented, as well as ideas on carbon properties that may influence SO 2 adsorption
