A rapid method for determining tin and molybdenum in geological samples by flame atomic-absorption spectroscopy

The proposed method uses a lithium metaborate fusion, dissolution of the fusion bead in 15% vv hydrochloric acid, extraction into a 4% solution of trioctylphosphine oxide in methyl isobutyl ketone, and aspiration into a nitrous oxide-acetylene flame. The limits of detection for tin and molybdenum are 1.0 and 0.5 ppm, respectively. Approximately 50 samples can be analysed per day.

Chemical analyses of stream deposits in the West Pioneer Mountains, Beaverhead County, Montana

The U.S. Geological Survey commenced a mineral-resource assessment of the West Pioneer Mountains, Montana in 1970. The study consists of coordinated geological, geochemical, and geophysical studies with the objective of evaluating the potential for mineral deposits in the area. The geochemical survey consists of the collection of bulk stream sediments which are analyzed for 31 elements using wet chemical and semiquantitative emission spectrographic techniques. The purpose of this report is to present the chemical analyses of the stream sediments collected to date.

Determination of arsenic in geologic materials using silver diethyldithiocarbamate

A colorimetric method is herein described for the determination of arsenic in a wide variety of geologic materials. The method has a detection limit of 1 ppm and no serious interferences. As many as 50 samples can be analyzed per man per day using relatively simple apparatus.
